A Safe Return After Two Years

A 15-year-old girl who went missing in Tennessee more than two years ago has been found safe. Authorities, including the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), Metro Nashville Police Department, Lexington Police Department, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), worked together to locate the teenager, who had been missing since July 2, 2023.

The coordinated search effort was sparked when new information suggested that the girl was in Lexington, prompting authorities to act swiftly to track her down.

Disappearance and Search Efforts

The teen was reported missing by her parent, and once investigators received a lead indicating she might be in Lexington, the search intensified. Surveillance efforts were deployed to track down the girl, and after her location was pinpointed in Jackson, police moved quickly to detain her for safety.

Successful Recovery

Once located, the teenager was taken into custody by Lexington Police until the USMS and TBI arrived. She was then handed over to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, ensuring that she was safe and receiving the appropriate care following her recovery.

The successful recovery was made possible thanks to the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015, which gives the USMS the authority to assist in locating and recovering missing, endangered, or exploited children. Since its enactment, the USMS has helped recover over 4,561 missing children, further highlighting the significance of the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable youth.

Next Steps and Legal Considerations

The teenager, who was just 13 when she went missing, has not been publicly identified due to her status as a minor. Authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding her time away or confirmed any suspects involved in her disappearance. The case remains under investigation, and law enforcement continues to look into all aspects of the girl’s disappearance.
