A Near-Drowning Incident
A 6-year-old girl, Coco Green, had a terrifying close call when she was nearly swept out to sea by a rip tide while playing in shallow water at Oceanside Harbor, California. The powerful current quickly carried her away from the shore, prompting her father, Chris Green, to swim out in a desperate attempt to save her.
Unfortunately, Chris became exhausted during the rescue, unable to bring both himself and Coco to safety.
A Heroic Rescue
Local surf instructor Lucas Tuab, who was coaching a competition nearby, noticed the struggle from the jetty. Without hesitation, Lucas jumped into the water fully clothed and swam out to help. He reached Chris and Coco, managing to pull them to safety on the rocks of the jetty.
Lucas later described the rescue as a calling, emphasizing that he simply did what anyone would have done in the situation. He downplayed the attention on himself, focusing on the moral of the story: humans should help one another when in need.
A Grateful Reunion
The following day, Chris and Lucas met in person, sharing an emotional hug as Chris expressed his deep gratitude for Lucas’s quick thinking and timely intervention. Despite the unexpected nature of the situation, both men were grateful that Coco and Chris made it out of the dangerous situation unharmed.
Lucas, who has been a surf instructor for 8 years, said that his training and experience made him instinctively react to the emergency. He explained that he was coaching from the jetty rocks that day on a whim, and it ultimately led to him witnessing the incident and stepping in to help.
