These Twin Toddlers Keep Calling Themselves by Each Other’s Names — and the Internet Can’t Get Enough

If you’ve ever tried to get a straight answer out of a toddler, you know the results can be unpredictable.
Now imagine asking two identical toddlers who they are.

That’s exactly what happened when Casey Gonzaga, a mother of four, asked her 18-month-old identical twin daughters their names — and ended up with a moment that quickly captured the internet’s attention.

In a short video shared on TikTok, the twins confidently insist they are each other, no matter how many times their mom gently corrects them.

“What’s Your Name?”

“Her.”

In the clip, Casey points to one daughter and asks her name. The answer comes quickly — but it’s her twin’s name. When Casey corrects her, the toddler smiles and repeats the mistake.

Then the same thing happens with the other twin.

Cecilia, known as Cece, says she’s Genevieve. Genevieve, or Evie, says she’s Cecilia. The back-and-forth continues, calm and cheerful, as if this is the most logical answer in the world.

Viewers found it instantly funny — and deeply familiar.

Not a Trick, Just Toddler Logic

After the video went viral, Casey explained that she doesn’t believe the girls are trying to be mischievous or swap identities.

Instead, she thinks it’s a simple developmental moment.

At 18 months, toddlers are still learning what names mean, not just how to repeat them. For twins who spend nearly every moment together, that learning curve can get especially blurred.

“They respond to both names,” Casey explained, adding that while they’ll come when either name is called, they answer with the other name when asked directly.

Inseparable — but Not Identical to Mom

While the twins may confuse their names, Casey has no trouble telling them apart.

She can spot differences in their eye color and a small birthmark. Their personalities, she says, are also distinct — one drawn more to certain toys, the other to different kinds of play.

The name confusion doesn’t worry her. If anything, it feels like a snapshot of how closely connected they are at this age.

A Big Moment in a Very Busy House

Casey is already used to a full home. In addition to Cece and Evie, she has two older sons, making her a mom of four.

She shared more context about the viral moment in an interview with People, noting that this kind of mix-up is just part of daily life right now — and something she knows won’t last forever.

Why the Video Resonated

The comments section filled quickly with parents chiming in.

Some shared stories of twins doing the same thing. Others said their single toddlers also confidently gave the “wrong” name at that age. Many just enjoyed the gentle humor of watching kids learn who they are — in real time.

The video worked because it didn’t feel staged or polished. It felt like a moment pulled straight from an ordinary living room.

A Phase That Won’t Last — but Will Be Remembered

Casey knows the twins will eventually sort it out. Names will settle. Individual identities will sharpen.

But for now, she’s letting the moment be what it is — funny, fleeting, and a little magical.

Sometimes, parenting milestones don’t arrive with big firsts or formal announcements. Sometimes, they come as two toddlers smiling at their mom, both happily insisting, “I’m her.”
